From our hotel in the town centre
Honoured with the prestigious titles of "Town of Art and History" ("Ville d’Art et d’Histoire") and "Most Beautiful Detours in France" ("Plus Beaux Détours de France"), Fontenay-le-Comte, dubbed the Vendée’s architectural jewel, is especially renowned for its Renaissance style. Nonetheless, each of the successive eras it has lived through has contributed towards the diverse heritage of the town: the archways of Place Belliard, the timbered houses, the Hotel Gobin-Fourestier, which faces onto the Fontaine des Quatre Tias ("Fountain of the Four Pipes"), the emblem of the city, the castle ruins in the Parc Baron, and Terre-Neuve Castle, which was once home to Belgian writer Georges Simenon.
In the surrounding countryside lies Vouvant, a medieval town listed among the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" ("Plus beaux villages de France") and which has also been declared a "Small Town of Character" ("Petite Cité de Caractère"). There’s also the Renaissance-style town of Foussais-Payré, and of course, Mervent, which has received the title of "Green holiday destination" ("Station Verte"). In the Fontenay-Vendée area, enjoy unforgettable experiences, whether with a loved one, with family or with friends!
