The Marais Poitevin
Near our hotel and restaurant
The second largest wetland in France after the Camargue, extending over a surface area of 100,000 hectares, the marshland area of the Marais Poitevin is an exceptional region of outstanding ecological diversity. You can share and experience this region all year round in the way that best suits you. Located to the south of Fontenay-le-Comte, the "Green Venice" is the most frequented area of the Marais Provence. With its multiple canals forming waterways covered in green lentil plants amid ash trees and poplars, the wet marshland provides an escape that is both romantic and relaxing.
Our region offers numerous outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy, including boating, fishing, birdwatching, canoeing, hiking, horse riding, horse-drawn carriage rides, biking and many more. These are just some of the activities that will allow you to get away from it all.
The Marais Poitevin has been granted numerous labels, including Regional Natural Park, Grand Site of France (“Grand Site de France”) and European Destination of Excellence.
